What Social Platform is right for you?

Apr 11, 2023 | Marketing, SEO, Tips, Trends

One question we get asked a lot is what social media platform is best for my business? That is a great (and very wise!) question to ask. We aren’t in the business of wasting your time on a platform that won’t drive results – and that goes for you too.

To answer this question, you need to understand what audience each platform targets most as well as how your brand’s services and products fit into these models. Read below for some stats, examples, and ideas to help get your business out there on social media!

Facebook

Number of monthly active users: 2.91 billion
Largest age group: 25-34
Gender: 43% female, 57% male
Time spent per day: 33 minutes

With Facebook having many free ways to bring brand awareness, it is a great choice for posting about your products and services. By including pictures and lengthier text, Facebook allows you to push out events you are hosting, share details about a new product, or even blast out sales. Facebook has a nifty shop feature as well and allows for short video uploads.

For clients like Historic Ann’s 1893, an event venue, we recommended Facebook as a marketing tool to show new couples booking their wedding packages and posting pictures of their big day making sure to “Check-in” at Historic Ann’s 1893 as an added way for visibility to the wedding venue.

Historic Ann’s also uses Facebook to post weekly information on wedding packages, booking availability and post fun photos to bring awareness to the different type of events a client could host at the venue.

We also recommend Facebook as an excellent choice for Churches and Cities needing to post about events going and push out needed information. It is often beneficial to these clients to have us embed their Facebook feed to their website to help gain followers and keep website viewers in the know of new news! Don’t forget the Facebook Live Stream option for anyone needing to have viewers join in virtually for a speaker or service.

Instagram

Number of monthly active users: 2 billion
Largest age group: 25-34 (31.2%), with 18-24 close behind at 31%
Gender: 48.4% female, 51.8% male
Time spent per day: 29 minutes

Think of Instagram as an abbreviated version of Facebook. The content you post on Instagram can be optimized by posting a high-quality, eye-catching image that will draw your viewer in to read a short caption or description. We find this marketing best for photographers or businesses that have the means to take high quality shots of their work or products. Miles & Bishop, a women’s clothing boutique, demonstrates how to do this best by posting cute photos of new products and linking them to their website for easy shopping access. You can find new inventory alert post and exclusive coupon codes on Miles & Bishop’s Instagram frequently. Also, for fun and engagement, the Miles & Bishop team can be found filming reels showing off merchandising the store and playing games at the boutique. Their social media accounts are ones we definitely enjoy following for sneak peaks on new products and lot of laughs!!

TikTok

Number of monthly active users: 2.91 billion
Largest age group: 25-34
Gender: 43% female, 57% male
Time spent per day: 33 minutes

TikTok can be a fun way to show your team at work doing fun challenges or on the job for engagement and brand awareness. We recommend a TikTok for personal brand-type businesses and public speakers like our client Dr. Mark McCloud, who can film brief speeches and post them to showcase his work to anyone interested in hiring him to speak at an event or workshop. TikTok’s short videos are a great tool but do require more planning for execution than a quick IG photo post so make sure you always evaluate how much free time you have to designate into your social media before deciding on which platform is best to focus on.

These three social media outlets all can and should be combined. We always recommend cross posting for the best use of content and exposure. We also recommend asking yourself what is the easiest implementation for you? Are you able to snap eye catching photos throughout your workday to caption on IG? Or does filming a short reel or TikTok seem easier and more natural to you? We all have our specialties and recommend doing what feels right without overthinking or complicating it. Have fun with it!
